Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a protocol developed by the IETF MMUSIC Working Group that is used to set up, hold and terminate communication sessions. These sessions may include, but are not limited to, telephone conversations including multimedia streaming, instant messaging, virtual reality scenarios, and playing online computer games.
